Pekoe Petals & Pomegranate
Picture the scene. It is early morning in the Uva Highlands of Sri Lanka. Mist clings to the emerald tea terraces. The rising sun burns it away. Flashes of colour appear against the green. The air smells of wet moss and high-altitude vegetation.
This blend is our tribute to that specific terroir. The "Ruby of the Highlands." We wanted to bottle the exotic vibrancy of a Sri Lankan jungle. A place where majestic peacocks roam. Where vegetation feels otherworldly.
Some green teas are delicate. This one has backbone. It starts with a base of tightly rolled Ceylon Gunpowder leaves. A tea known for bold, smoky depth. That earthy mossiness is contrasted with the sharp zest of Hibiscus & Rosehip. Then drenched in the sweet nectar of Pomegranate. It delivers a sophisticated cup. Tart. Cleansing. Vividly refreshing.
The Science: You might ask: What makes this green tea different from a standard Sencha?
- The gunpowder lock (rolled leaf technology) Most green teas are flat. This exposes them to air. This "Gunpowder" tea involves withered leaves steamed and rolled into tight pellets. They look like 18th-century gunpowder grains. It is not just for looks. The tight roll locks the antioxidants inside the leaf. They stay potent until they unfurl explosively in your cup.
- The ruby shield (hibiscus & rosehip) We do not use these just for their stunning red colour. Hibiscus & Chile-grown Rosehip are packed with Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps the body absorb the unique antioxidants found in green tea. We blend them to create a bio-available synergy. It boosts the tea's natural health properties.
- The tannic bridge (pomegranate) Green tea has natural astringency. A dry feeling on the tongue. Pomegranate is the perfect partner. It possesses a "sweet astringency."
