Jazira Rasa is our blend of complex Ethiopian, Indian and Indonesian speciality Arabica beans. Roasted in the UK, our beans have been ethically sourced from the greatest growers stretching across the equator. Every bean we sell supports The World Coffee Research charity, who recognise that no comprehensible effort has ever been made to encourage the best-quality coffee varieties from around the globe, and make them available to producers in different countries such as India and Indonesia. See here how the world is changing for the better.
Our Speciality Blends tell unique stories from their names...
JAZIRA - Can be taken from Arabic (commonly spoken in Ethiopia) where JAZIRA translates to island. Paying tribute to the cross-continental contribution from Indonesia. As after all, Indonesia is made from over 17,000 islands.
RASA – Derived from the Indian language of Sanskrit, means flavour and can be heard in the Southwest, where the beans inherit their boldness from a method taught and practised for hundreds of years.
Our Indonesian coffee is grown in soil elevating from Lake Toba, which is the largest volcanic lake in the world! It is processed using the traditional Giling Basah method, giving this coffee a huge body.
Beans grown in India are processed by 'monsooning'. A centuries’ old special technique where the raw (or green) beans are first dry processed and then exposed to the annual monsoon rains and humidity for up to 20 weeks. This gives the beans much lower acidity and a unique earthy flavour that is signature to coffee from this part of the world.
Given its origins and complexity, you can be guaranteed a brilliantly bold flavour! Its low acidity makes it super smooth, and hints of dark chocolate give it a balance that is justifiably fused with a sweet nougat after taste.
